The blushing brothers are George and James Harris.  Who’s who is uncertain.  They were very close in age, born just two years apart; James on January 10, 1872, and George on March 10, 1874.

HARRIS George WWI Draft card

On George’s WWI draft card, he’s said to have black hair and brown eyes.  I wasn’t able to locate a card for James.

Found along with this image was a cabinet card photo of the boys’ younger sister, Nora Belle, born in 1877.  At age 18, she married William Mathison and they had 10 children.

The siblings were born and raised in Cheatham County, Tennessee.  As adults, they lived in Nashville.

  1. Okay I was finding this quasi entertaining until I got to the story of the Blushing Brothers. What you made up is an outright lie. This fellow was born in 1872 and I’m supposed to believe he had a draft card? Better check your facts before you go around telling more lies, the US didn’t even have a draft until 1940. That would have made George 72 years old.

    1. I’ve added the image of George’s U.S. World War I Draft Registration Card from 1918. George was 44 years old. In response to the United States’ entry into World War I, the Selective Service Act was authorized for the purpose of raising a national army. Starting in 1917, more than 24 million Americans (nearly 98 percent of the male population under the age of 46) registered for the draft.
