Our sitter looks to be in her early teens and based on the young woman’s fashion I date this CDV (carte de visite) to the early 1870s. The photographer, Luman F. Heath, operated studios in Lansing and North Lansing from 1865 to 1903.
I believe the writing penned on the reverse reads “Clara Keith” although the first name looks more like “Cluru.” If I’m correct, our sitter is Miss Clara Frances Keith.
What do you think? Is this our Clara? The nose, forehead, and lips are very similar and look at the ear. I think the ear is the clincher!
Clara lived to be 90 years old and she didn’t let anything get in the way of celebrating that milestone. Even though she broke her hip two days earlier, the festivities went on as scheduled. That’s one tough lady!
